Dead Sea

Dead sea is an hours drive east of Amman city. I was contemplating if I should visit it or not but when I found another unknown park (more on that later) near the Dead Sea I had no reason not to go.
Dead sea is a salt lake bordered on one side by Jordan and the other side by Israel. It's 429 metres below sea level making it the lowest point on Earth. It is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish, hence its name Dead Sea. If coming from Amman, one will pass the beautiful visitors centre before arriving at the lake itself. We stopped at the centre for an hour. It has a museum which tells the history of Dead Sea. I even had an pistachio ice cream (not great) before moving onto the Sea.

Arriving we headed for the first accessible free part of the sea. It was not clean and had plenty of litter. We just wanted to wet our feet and take a few selfies.

If one wants to properly bath in the Dead Sea, then it's best to go to one of the resort hotel and use their private beach. There will be a charge but at least it'll be clean and you can use the hotel facilities to change.

The visitor centre is beautifully built.
